How to configure a Screen Lock on Windows
Updated over a year ago

Configure a Lock Screen on Windows Devices

  • Open the Start Menu

  • Select the Control Panel

  • Go to "Appearance and Personalization"

  • Search for "Screen Saver" and click "Change screen saver."

  • First, select any screen saver other than "(None)."

  • Next, there's an option to wait for a configured set of minutes for the screen saver. Set that to the desired number of minutes (the upper bound is 60 minutes), and check the "On resume, display log-on screen."

Ensure that on Windows, we have our PIN or Password option enabled and set with the proper sign-in options

Enable Password Protection

  • Open the Start Menu

  • Select the Control Panel

  • Go to Accounts

  • Search for Sign-in options and find Manage how you sign in to your device

  • You can use various sign-in options, but the default (recommended) will be a login PIN.

Sign-in Options

  • Open the Start Menu

  • Select the Control Panel

  • Go to Accounts

  • Search for Sign-in options and find Require sign-in

  • Select the "When PC wakes up from sleep" within the drop-down

  • Lastly, for our device, we will verify that the power option is set to "Require a password on wakeup" (This setting applies usually to devices like laptops):
